Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (NLU), Prayagraj, in collaboration with AnantLaw, has launched a vital humanitarian initiative, ‘Sankalp 51A@Pahalgam’, to offer pro bono legal services to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, 2025. The tragic event claimed several lives and left numerous families from different states devastated, urgently calling for civic and legal assistance.
This initiative is part of the broader ‘Sankalp 51A’ project series, introduced during Mahakumbh 2025 under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon. Inspired by Article 51A of the Indian Constitution, the project series emphasizes the performance of fundamental duties and community service.
During Mahakumbh 2025, the first major project intervention successfully saw trained paralegal volunteers from NLU Prayagraj provide legal and civic assistance to pilgrims and families. Building on that success, NLU Prayagraj has now extended its outreach to the families affected by the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Under this new initiative:
- NLU Prayagraj and AnantLaw have pledged to provide structured legal and civic assistance, completely pro bono, to victims’ families.
- A trained team of certified paralegal volunteers will assist families with:
- Documentation processes
- Filing for compensation claims
- Navigating insurance procedures
- Connecting with NGOs and statutory bodies like the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) and the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA).
Highlighting the project’s humane approach, Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon stated,
“In moments of profound loss, the commitment to justice and humanitarian service must rise above all. Through Sankalp 51A@Pahalgam, we aim not only to provide legal support but also to stand in solidarity with the victims’ families, reaffirming our constitutional duties and collective responsibility as citizens.”
Echoing this commitment, Ms. Anu Monga, Partner at AnantLaw, emphasized,
“By connecting affected families with necessary resources and rights, the initiative seeks to restore hope and provide pathways for long-term rehabilitation.”
Sankalp 51A@Pahalgam is not just about legal aid—it blends civic engagement with justice delivery, ensuring families receive timely, dignified, and comprehensive support. The collaboration between NLU Prayagraj and AnantLaw stands as a testament to how academic institutions and the legal fraternity can contribute meaningfully in times of humanitarian crises.
