RPNLU Prayagraj Launches International Academic Exchange Programme with University of Pretoria

Prayagraj, May 19, 2025 — In a landmark step towards fostering global academic engagement, Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University, Prayagraj (RPNLUP) has initiated an international Academic Exchange and Immersion Programme with the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa. This significant collaboration stems from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year between the two premier institutions.

The 3–4-week exchange programme is designed to provide RPNLUP students with an intellectually enriching and culturally immersive experience at one of South Africa’s most esteemed law schools. This initiative reflects RPNLU’s growing commitment to internationalising legal education and expanding its students’ global exposure.

The coordination for this programme is being actively led by Professor N Dyani-Mhango, Head of the Department of Public Law and Chair of Internationalisation, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. Discussions are currently underway to finalise the exact dates and curate a robust schedule of academic and co-curricular engagements for the visiting Indian students.

“We are in active dialogue with Professor Dyani-Mhango to finalise the dates and detailed programme for our students. This exchange is an important step in globalising legal education at RPNLUP and providing our students with an international platform for academic growth and cultural exchange,” said Senior Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, RPNLU, Prayagraj.

What Students Can Expect

The academic immersion programme promises a dynamic blend of seminars, workshops, legal aid and community outreach programmes, and hands-on training at human rights law clinics. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in moot court and mock trial workshops, gaining practical insights into comparative legal systems and honing their legal advocacy skills.

“The goal is to immerse our students in a rich blend of academic instruction, practical learning, and intercultural interaction. By engaging with global legal perspectives and participating in community legal initiatives, students will gain valuable insights that transcend the traditional classroom setting,” added Sr. Prof. Tandon.

Strengthening Global Legal Collaboration

This academic exchange not only enhances the student learning experience but also reinforces RPNLU’s vision of nurturing globally competent legal professionals. The collaboration with the University of Pretoria opens new pathways for faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and long-term institutional partnerships.

Both institutions share a commitment to advancing legal education, research, and community service, thereby creating a sustainable academic bridge between India and South Africa. This initiative also lays the foundation for future collaborations in emerging areas of international and comparative law.

A Step Towards Global Excellence

With this pioneering academic exchange, RPNLU, Prayagraj continues to position itself as a centre of excellence in legal education and international cooperation. The University looks forward to expanding its global footprint and empowering its students through diverse and transformative learning experiences.
