Faculty of Law, SGT University Hosts Expert Talk on AI, Laws, and Sustainability with Dr. Pavan Duggal

Gurugram, May 27, 2025 — The Department of Laws, SGT University, in collaboration with the Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law and Climate Change, hosted an impactful expert talk on “AI, Laws and Sustainability” at the university’s Budhera campus.

The session commenced with a keynote by Ms. Komal Gupta, Chief Innovation Officer at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, who offered deep insights into the growing risks of AI-powered research tools. She highlighted the increasing affordability and accessibility of such tools due to the rise of cheaper AI models. Ms. Gupta also explored the environmental consequences of AI development and the role of responsible innovation in promoting sustainability. A vibrant Q&A session followed her address, where students engaged with the speaker on real-world legal and environmental concerns.

The event was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Pavan Duggal, renowned Supreme Court Advocate and global thought leader in cyber law, who was invited by Mr. Sudhir Mishra, Founder and Managing Partner of Trust Legal. Dr. Duggal cautioned the audience about malicious uses of AI technologies, including DeepFake tools and voice modulators, and their potential to cause harm. He underlined the growing vulnerability of young minds influenced by emotionally manipulative AI systems, stressing the urgent need for legal frameworks to address these issues.

Mr. Sudhir Mishra graciously moderated the discussion, ensuring an insightful exchange of ideas between speakers and students. The event culminated in a summarising address by Dr. Mishra, where he echoed the collective sentiment of the attendees—students and faculty alike—about the need for regulated and ethical AI adoption in society.

As a token of appreciation, the university presented mementos to the esteemed speakers. Dr. Richa Chaudhary, Dean, Faculty of Law, extended a warm vote of thanks to all dignitaries and attendees for making the event a success. The session concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem.
