On April 24, 2025, Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) in Jabalpur convened a solemn condolence meeting to honor the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The university community, led by Vice-hancellor Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha and Registrar Dr. Praveen Tripathi, gathered to express grief and solidarity with the families affected by this tragic incident.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, resulted in the deaths of at least 28 individuals, including 25 Indian tourists, a Nepalese national, and two locals from Jammu and Kashmir. Over 20 others sustained injuries. The assailants, reportedly affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted tourists in a mass shooting, marking one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in recent years.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attackers, dressed in military-style uniforms and armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s, emerged from the surrounding forests and opened fire on the unsuspecting tourists. Some victims were reportedly asked to recite Islamic verses before being shot, indicating a targeted approach based on religious identity.
In response to the attack, Indian authorities have launched a comprehensive manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the act as “dastardly and inhuman,” assuring the nation that those responsible would be brought to justice. The incident has also prompted international condemnation and heightened security measures across the region.
During the condolence meeting at DNLU, attendees observed a moment of silence to pay their respects to the victims. The university community extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in the face of such tragedies.
DNLU stands in solidarity with the nation during this time of mourning and reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace and justice.
