DNLU Jabalpur Hosts Lecture on 75 Years of the Constitution: Youth as Catalysts for Constitutional Responsibility

Jabalpur, August 29, 2025 — Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, organised a special lecture on “75 Years of the Constitution: From Awareness to Action – Youth as Catalysts for Constitutional Responsibility in Modern India.” The event brought together some of the most distinguished dignitaries of the Indian legal fraternity, making it a memorable occasion for students and scholars alike.

The lecture witnessed the gracious presence of Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjay Karol, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who served as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address. He was joined by Hon’ble Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Hon’ble Shri Justice Vivek Agarwal, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and Shri Siddharth R. Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India. Their insights and vision enriched the deliberations and added great significance to the event.

In his keynote address, Justice Sanjay Karol reflected on the evolution and resilience of the Indian Constitution over the past 75 years. He underlined the timeless relevance of constitutional values in safeguarding democracy, fundamental rights, and human dignity. His Lordship called upon the youth to move beyond passive awareness and to actively embody constitutional principles in their everyday lives, reinforcing the democratic fabric of the nation through responsible civic participation, meaningful public discourse, and institutional engagement.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, in his address, emphasized the urgent need for youth to bridge the gap between constitutional awareness and grassroots action. He encouraged young citizens to take part in legal aid, public advocacy, and civic education, thereby strengthening the constitutional culture in society. Stressing the importance of judicial institutions in upholding constitutional morality, he urged law students in particular to internalize and advance the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of DNLU, and Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar, with Shri Shashank Pathak, Assistant Professor of Law, serving as the Event Coordinator. Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries for their presence and highlighting the importance of such lectures in inspiring young minds to embrace constitutional values.

Adding to the deliberations, Shri Siddharth R. Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, spoke about the dynamic role of youth as agents of change. He reminded the gathering that the future of the Constitution depends on young minds who must uphold its spirit, noting that constitutional responsibility is not only a right but also a duty. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Shashank Pathak, Assistant Professor of Law, who acknowledged the contribution of all dignitaries, faculty members, and students in making the programme a resounding success. The programme was moderated by Ms. Swati Singh Parmar, Assistant Professor of Law, who conducted the proceedings with grace.

A significant highlight of the day was the inauguration of the Centre for Corporate Laws and Governance (CCLG) Blog, spearheaded by Dr. Shruti Nandwana. The blog is envisioned as a platform to share research, knowledge, and insights in the field of corporate law, engaging scholars, practitioners, and students alike.

The lecture at DNLU Jabalpur marked an inspiring academic milestone, not only celebrating 75 years of the Indian Constitution but also igniting a call to action for the youth. By engaging with constitutional values and translating them into action, the students were reminded of their vital role as catalysts in preserving democracy and shaping the future of modern India.
