Call for Papers: HPNLU Journal of Disability Studies Volume II [Submit by June 30]

HPNLU Journal of Disability Studies invites scholarly contributions from academicians, scholars, professionals, and policymakers for its Volume II (2025). The journal solicits scholarly contributions relating to legal as well as other developments in the field of disability laws and related jurisprudence. Selection of entries shall be based on a blind peer review.

About the Journal

The HPNLU Journal of Disability Studies (JDS) is an annual and blind peer-reviewed journal. Among National Law School Journals in India, the Journal of Disability Studies (JDS) is the first of its kind, and it is devoted to disability laws and related jurisprudence. The idea behind this journal is to provide a platform to all the stakeholders, including people with disabilities, disability activists, lawyers, policy-makers, and researchers, to promote the first-person narratives on disability studies and dilute the otherization of people with disabilities.

The journal’s editorial board encourages researchers to contribute their experiences and innovative reasoning. While following NEP, the Journal accepts works from disability studies and related issues based on a multidisciplinary approach. It includes legal, socio-economic, socio-legal, linguistic, sociological, historical, political, psychological, gender and sexuality, feminist, modernity & post-modernity, etc., aspects of disability studies. We welcome theoretical, qualitative, and quantitative ideas. The purpose of this journal is to establish a conducive environment for disability discourse, whereby sensitizing the society at large towards people with disabilities and establishing a right-in-action approach.

Categories

Contributions may be made through the mediums of articles, book reviews, notes, and essays/comments. In any category, the contribution should be a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of contemporary issues in disability laws and related fields.

  • Articles: 6000 to 10000 words.
  • Essays & Comments: 4000 to 6000 words.
  • Book Review: 3000 to 4000 words [Contribution under this Category must be made along with the new hard copy of the Book].
  • Case Comments & Legislative Comments: 4000 to 6000 words.

Guidelines

  • Submissions shall be accepted only in English.
  • All contributions are required to be accompanied by an ‘abstract’ of 250-300 words. The abstract must expressly include the novelty and usefulness of the idea that the author wishes to put forth and must categorically mention the specific contribution of the article beyond the existing available literature.
  • Co-authorship is allowed up to one (01) co-author only.
  • The manuscript should not contain any references to the author’s identity.
  • The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 12, and 1.5-line spacing.
  • The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 10, with single line spacing.
  • For Citation, refer to the HPNLU-Shimla Citation Style only. Please click the link [here] for the citation style.
  • Manuscripts should only use footnotes as a means of citation. No other method shall be permitted.
  • Lengthy Quotations are discouraged. Author(s) should avoid long quotations and keep them to a minimum wherever necessary, with full and proper acknowledgement.
  • Lengthy and multi-paragraphed footnotes are discouraged. The citations must mention the page(s) of the source, and in cases where Court Judgments are referred to, the footnote should also mention the paragraph of the judgment in addition to the page number of the Reporter.
  • Only authoritative websites may be cited. References to internet sources such as Wikipedia, blogs, commercial websites, etc., are unacceptable.
  • Manuscripts having more than 10% similarity will be rejected.

Covering Letter

  • Author(s) must send a cover letter mentioning the paper’s title, name, designation, and details of the author(s) and institutional affiliation. Further, the author(s) must solemnly declare about the manuscript’s originality and that the same has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
  • Paraphrasing another author’s work shall not be considered as original work. The source must be acknowledged.

Terms and Conditions

  • The manuscripts should be the original work of the contributor and not a compilation of pre-existing works on the subject. It should not amount to the violation of others’ copyright. The contributor has to give a declaration as to the originality of the work.
  • The copyright in all articles published in the Volume shall vest in the owner of HPNLU, Shimla.
  • The views from other sources and others’ work should be quoted and acknowledged.
  • Paraphrasing another author’s work shall not be considered as original work. The source has to be sufficiently acknowledged.
  • The Contributor has to cover the risk of being sued for copyright, defamation, or contempt, and shall be liable to suffer the losses if caused by violating copyright.
